Working With Smart OTP of Nepal SBI Bank

Why Smart OTP?
While performing a sensitive task in banking, banks send the OTP in users' registered mobile number to authenticate the activity. But SMS sent to user mobile should be validated within a very short time (typically 2 minutes)  for security reasons.  Late or non-delivery of SMS OTP is a frequent incident we observe these days. It would be wonderful if we could access the OTP immediately no matter whether we are abroad or in roaming or in no cellular network area. Hence, The Smart OTP becomes a reasonable choice.

How to enable Smart OTP in Nepal SBI E-Banking?
The necessary condition for Smart OTP registration is the email address and mobile number. After ensuring that both are updated with the bank, there is a link that says-"Register for Smar OTP".  Here are the steps to be followed:

  • Click on register for smart OTP option

    • Enter the user ID and verification code

      • Enter the SMS OTP received in the registered mobile number for authentication

        • SBI will send an email to the registered email address with the necessary link to download and configure the Smart OTP in users smartphone

          • Access the email from a mobile device
          • Visit application store and install the authenticator app (if not already done) with the link provided in the email

          • After the installation of the app, access the mail again and click on Smart OTP activation link

          • If prompted select your desired browser to run the URL (preferably google chrome)
          • If prompted allow your browser to open third party app (the authenticator app)
          • CA authenticator app would popup with auto-populated URL in the address bar (click on provision manually on IOS devices to get this screen)
          • Click on next, user-id separated by period will be auto-populated, no need to do anything, click on next

          • Enter the activation code received in email
          • Set the pin code (4 digits) for security and remember the PIN
Smart OTP has been set up. To access the Smart OTP, open the CA authenticator app, select your desired account if you have set more than one account in the same app from the top left corner, enter the PIN code set earlier and the app will show the smart OTP instantly.

Note: entering the wrong PIN will generate invalid Smart OTP which will not work for e-banking.
